Photo Booth Equipment
The Funky Photo Booth is part of the photography company Solent Studios. Everything about the Funky Photo Booth has been designed with picture quality in mind. We know that discussing the technical side of our photo booth equipment won’t be of interest to everyone. But for those that are interested and the various start-up booth companies asking for help and advice, here’s the info.
Our booths all use either Nikon or Canon digital SLRs and lenses. This allows us to manually set exposure values to get perfectly lit pictures. In addition we gain full control over white balance which is particularly important for photo booths. Have you ever noticed photo booth pictures where people look green? Or images look really shaky or grainy? Chances are they were taken on a cheap web cam rather than a correctly set professional dSLR camera.
Each and every Funky Photo Booth is fitted with an Elinchrom studio strobe. These extremely powerful flash heads have fast recycle times and can cruise all night long taking photo booth pictures. By pre-focusing our cameras with a high depth of field there’s no need for bright lights that web cams need to focus. This means that people using the Funky Photo Booth aren’t squinting, rubbing tears from their eyes or applying after-sun lotion when they come out of the booth.
Dye Sublimation Printers
We use printers made by Citizen and DNP. This means that guests have dry, ready to touch prints in just a few seconds after coming out of the Funky Photo Booth. These printers aren’t cheap, they produce passport standard prints to a level accepted by HM Passport office. However, if you’re wearing a sombrero with a pink feather boa and Elvis Presley glasses in your picture, there’s a high chance any passport application will be declined.
Adobe Photoshop & Lightroom
All of our custom designs for banners and artwork on prints use Adobe Photoshop for professional level graphics. We use Lightroom to archive each and every client’s photo booth gallery. These are then stored both on site and a secure cloud based server. Even our clients from 2008 can still access their photo booth galleries.
